As well as shared use (free of charge) of the owners' 3 green, 9 tee golf course, which lies beside the cottage's own garden, visitors to River Cottage also enjoy complementary passes to Athelhampton House and Gardens (open to the public) and access to the licensed restaurant for lunches and cream teas during opening hours (Sunday–Thursday in summer, Sundays only in the winter). A village shop and pub serving food are just 1 mile away and the county town of Dorchester (5 miles) offers good shopping and a host of amenities, including cycle hire for exploring the area's glorious countryside and delightful villages. Nearby attractions include the famous Cerne Abbas Giant cut into the chalk of the hillside, the Abbotsbury Swannery and Weymouth's beautiful sandy beach and numerous seaside amusements.

Our holiday cottages in Dorset offer you the perfect way to make the most of your break in this pretty and largely unspoilt county, where there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Dorset’s Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site, with dramatic coves and stunning cliffs, topped by the South West Coast Path, which offers some wonderful views. Here you’ll find characterful seaside towns like Swanage and Lyme Regis as well as the wide sweep of Weymouth Beach. If you’re looking for somewhere more lively, then Bournemouth won’t disappoint. This is one of Britain’s most popular resorts and has attractions and entertainments in abundance. Nearby Poole is quieter, but still has much to offer when you’re taking one of our Dorset cottage holidays. Try and make the trip to Brownsea Island, a fabulous nature reserve here. Inland on your cottage holiday in Dorset you can enjoy the rolling hills that are so characteristic of the county and explore what has become known as “Thomas Hardy Country”. The county town of Dorchester, with its High Street lined with 17th and 18th Century houses, is little changed from Hardy’s day, while the pretty town of Shaftesbury has been used as a location in countless films set in Olde England.
